Are you passionate about food? Do you want to understand the social, political, environmental, and cultural dimensions of food? A degree in Food Studies prepares students to address pressing social and environmental problems in our food systems.
This major shares a core curriculum with the B.S. in Nutrition and Food Systems, offered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Tucson is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and an ideal setting to pursue a degree in Food Studies given its vibrant food scene and countless opportunities for service learning, applied research experiences, and internships with a wide range of local and regional partners.

Participate in experiential learning with local nonprofits, such as the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona and Local First Arizona.
You will benefit from faculty expertise across campus and learn to work collaboratively across disciplines. Core courses include:
- FOOD 101: Intro to Critical Food Studies
- FOOD 102: Intro to U.S. Food Systems
- ENGL 307: Business Writing
- FOOD 300: Food Justice, Ethics, & Activism
- FOOD 302: Food Practices
You'll also choose elective courses from the areas of Food, Society, and Culture; Global Food Policy, Governance, and the Environment; and Leadership and Community Engagement. There are also opportunities for internships, independent study projects, and study abroad.
